We left LaFortuna on Sunday morning to attend church somewhere on the way home. As usual, especially on Sundays, we passed quite a few cyclists. The highway between Coronado and LaFortuna was one of the best we traveled in our entire time here. As we continued to drive, we realized this wasn’t the average Sunday. There was a cyclist race. We were forced to follow them for about 30 minutes until their route took them off the highway.

If you zoom in above, you can begin to see the group.

Maybe 50-60 cyclists?

The church building was what we call a phase 1. To the right in the lobby a hot tub type item used as the baptismal font. People were friendly to us. Church has been our best place to practice Spanish.

Clark took me to lunch at an El Salvadoran restaurant near our neighborhood. The pupusas were excellent and I can’t remember what the “croquette” is called but it’s plantain stuffed with beans then fried.
We had the pleasure to host these beautiful people for dinner. Clark grilled pork chops and I served with sautéed cabbage and mashed potatoes, then provided no bake cookies for dessert. The no bake cookies were a hit every time.
From left: Christine, Roosevelt, Clark and me, Annia (Rosevelt’s wife), Kisha (my conversation partner) and her mom Lory.
I met up with Andrea (my Spanish profe), and Christine for some sushi. The food was great and while we had a fabulous time chatting, the wait for the food was a bit insane at around 2 hours. Andrea had to leave so Christine and I enjoyed ours at the house.
Unagi
We received a free mochi for the long wait.
Later in the week, we were invited to our friends home. Juan Carlos has his own bakery in his garage. He’s a very talented pastry chef who specializes in croissants. This was our dinner. In Tico we say “Que rico” or “Muy rico”. No kidding!!
Me and the chef!! I don’t think a visit to France would even beat this guy’s croissant!
Flowers for the week.
I took the kids to the chocolate farm this week too but that has its own post. Check it out! It was my favorite day trip.
