To begin the week, after Clark had found a little glass to keep all our beach finds aka shell collection, Rosabel said she heard some scratching. She narrowed it down to the shells and realized Clark had brought back 3 hermit crabs even though we had discouraged picking up any closed conch shells. Rosabel tried in vain to provide the right environment for the crabs but unfortunately Coronado is too cool for them. Out of curiosity, she decided to gently disrobe one of the crabs. The tail is like a slug tail. We were sad about this and hope we don't make this mistake again.
Besides the regular adventures, Clark and Rosabel decided to add a salsa dance class to their activities. (insert picture) They are looking pretty good.

While we were having our Costa Rica adventures of the week. this happened back home. Haha! Wow! The kids are a little disappointed to miss more winter weather and snow days from school. Since they go to online school, the classes continue as usual.

In other news:
I celebrated my first bout with gastroenteritis. No one else fell ill, so I narrowed down the source to some green salad or a cucumber salad I had made. Some of that produce was either spoiled or contaminated. After about 5 days, I felt back to normal.
Valentine's Day shenanigans...There was a cute little vendor fair in Coronado so we toured around the square to see if we could find some artisanal type souvenirs. Clark had planned a nice date for the two of us but unfortunately, I was too ill to go so we postponed to the following week.
Clark and the kids picked out this selection of chocolates to try. The bars came in a cup of sorts. The Smile brand is slightly waxy chocolate, but the Tutto chocolate is super tasty! The cookie crumbles with the chocolate are my favorite.
Clark has generously brought flowers home each week to beautify our home. The flowers are always well arranged or freshly cut.
A few weeks ago, Clark bought a small grill for us but he didn't spot the lighter fluid or matches so our grill took a VERY long time to light and we ended up cooking the majority of the meat in the skillet. I picked these up for him as an early gift.
On my walk:
School has returned to session after the holiday break. Here in Costa Rica, the school holiday begins a little before Christmas until early February. On my walk home after Spanish class, frequently there is a little mob outside this large preschool. The cars just park double or triple right in the road and the parents go wait near the gate/door. No special lanes for pick up here. The traffic just has to go around. The "traffic" light is actually for the crosswalk.
New fruit:
We have these micro bananas, about 2-3 inches in length. Pretty sweet. The round orange fruit is granadilla (related to passion fruit). We didn't catch the name of the wrinkly one but the picture below shows the inside. It was a little acidic for my taste but Clark loved it.
Here is a few new veggies we hadn't seen. We asked the name of the large root in the top of the picture but I can't recall now.
Bananas still on the stalk.
I didn't get a good picture of the pejibaye in the saltwater tub, so I inserted a generic google pic. The tubers are yucca.
They soak these so they are savory. We weren't brave enough to try it this time around. My tummy was still out of sorts.
In the school garden this week:

This huge lettuce-like plant is near the front door. Its name sounds similar to "tobacco". It loves the humid environment therefore it grows very large.
New hibiscus blooming.
Another unique type of hibiscus.
This isn't in the school garden. I noticed this Amaryllis in my neighbor's "yard", which is behind the typical Tico wrought iron fence. But I thought it was so beautiful I decided to just reach my hand through with my phone to snap the photo. The photo doesn't express how large the blooms are.

The wrinkly fruit you mentioned is passion fruit. Pero esa está más madura de lo normal. Perfect for juice.
