Our First Casado Lunch at Anita's

We went hunting and gathering for some lunch on our first Thursday when Clark came home for lunch and wanted to go on a walk about (Auzzie for sightseeing).  I suggested finding a "soda", which is a popular type of family-owned cafe in Costa Rica. Clark thought he remembered seeing one near the Super Centro. Alas, no luck but a Tico bystander overheard our dilemma (of being "lost") and pointed us toward a soda just up the way. Here is some information about "casado". Casado - Wikipedia or just google "about casado" and AI will generate a list of fun facts.

This soda is owned by a lady and her brother. I wish I knew the name of the place. I will have to walk by again one of these days. She was open for 22 days then! They were very proud to serve us, and the food was wonderful; a perfect introduction to Tico almuerza (lunch).

The soda is served in bottles and Rose got a leche con chocolate frio. It had shaved ice and malt. Excelente!!

Craig ordered the super hamberguesa that had everything but the kitchen sink on it! Shredded pork, beef, grilled or crispy onions, lettuce, cheese, and dripping in some Lizano sauce, mayo, and mustard.

Casado de pescado (fish). The yellow sauce is mustard. The picadillo includes a soup of root vegetables and the opaque sticks similar to potatoes is yucca? There is pasta salad, black beans and rice.

Rose had the casado de cerrado (pork chop).

Mine is casado de pollo.

Bon Appetite!!
