Food Adventures

Original writing begins Tuesday January 21:

We ate our first pizza. The bread was amazing and fresh. The sauce isn't as sweet as in the USA and the meat is different. The cheese has a yellowish hue. Overall, the taste is different but we all love pizza, so it still hit the spot. Maybe someday we will be eating pizza back in the USA and wish we could have a taste of the Tico style pizza!

Clark invited the missionaries over and to save me from cooking in a small kitchen with few supplies I have't mastered yet, we were going to order pizza again, but the shop is closed on Mondays. In fact, many shops were closed on Mondays which surprised me. I expected more to be closed on Sunday...

Left is bisteak plate: In Costa Rico, beef steak is shortened to bisteak (bee-steak). The salad is cabbage and tomatoes with a little vinegar dressing.

Right: Tortilla de Pollo. This is corn masa pressed down with cheese and shredded chicken then fried together. It is HEAVY on the cheese.

Top: Tortilla de Jamon (ha-mone is ham). Cooked the same as Torilla de Pollo.
Bottom: Costa Rican cornbread is moist and sweet!

Casado de Pollo

Casado de bisteak.

Instead, we took the missionaries to a local restaurant and tried some new dishes, although the elders chose casado.

The next day Clark decided to try a creperie he has seen.

He brought the treats home in this cute box!

The chocolate mousse he selected is at the top. Yum!

He brought me one of these blueberry cheesecakes. The blueberry part is a jello mold, as in 60's style fruit jelly mold. The only cheesecake is the thin layer on top. It was scrumptious!

The kids chose crepes. They gobbled them before pictures which gives a clue how much they liked it!

Bon Appetite!
